DenPost reports that two Swedish women, Lovina Lembeng (19) and Klara Palmqvist (21) required hospitalization after they were the targets of a drive-by purse snatching by two men on Jalan Raya Pererenen on Wednesday night, April 12, 2017, at approximately 10:00 pm.
The woman reportedly resisted the effort to steal their bags, losing a passport, money, credit cards and a hand phone.
One of the two attackers, Kadek Arca (19), was captured by several people who witnessed the crime and beaten by a mob. His accomplice, identified only as Wayan, managed to escape.
Police say the two men are suspected of undertaking similar purse snatching across North Kuta, Kuta Mengwi. Typically, the men would prey on female tourists riding motorcycles in quiet areas and then crowd them off to the side of the road.
In the latest robbery, the two Swedish women initially held on to their bag causing their motorcycle to swerve and fall to the pavement where the women sustained injuries.
The two thieves drove off in the direction of Banjar Tengah Tangeb where the pursuing crowd caught up with them in front of the Theresia Thomas Aquino Church. It was there that Kadek Arca was severely beaten while Wayan made good his escape.
The identity of Wayan is known to police who continue to seek his arrest.
