Affordable and Authentic Source of Thai Cuisine Reopens in Sanur Village

Admirers of authentic Thai cuisine served at very affordable prices were saddened when, some months ago, DD’s Warung on Jalan Batur Sari closed its door to allow its proprietor-chef to recover from a back ailment.

The good news: Effective November 1, 2017, DD’s Warung is back in a new, larger location sure to be a hit with both Sanur resident and tourist visitors.

Located on Jalan Danau Poso No. 36B Sanur, the “new” DD's Warung is, in truth, more restaurant than warung with seating now spread over a wide area that provides a choice between sidewalk-society seating, tables in the main restaurant and bar, or lounging in an idyllic back garden. The garden is perfect for a families and small groups seeking a relaxed afternoon or evening of Thai food served on low tables surrounded by beanbag seating adjacent to a nearby dip pool.

There’s also a small stage with a sound system in the garden suggesting DD’s Warung may be a good place to while away a relaxed tropical evening.

DD’s Warung is open daily except Mondays from 11:00 am – 11:00 pm.

DD’s is easy to drive past as there is no standing signboard. Look, instead, for the roadside wall painted in pop-art style. Returning from the previous in DD’s penchant for colorful hanging Thai lanterns on display throughout the restaurant.

The forte of DD’s Warung remains its menu of authentically prepared Thai food offered at remarkably affordable prices.

Be warned. DD’s makes no apologies for being Thai down to its very core. Those in search of a hamburger, steak or plate of pasta will be disappointed with the 100% offering of only Thai cuisine. Mind you, we're not complaining.

Returning and as tasty as ever are starters that include Thai spring rolls wrapped in rice paper; Yam Nua – a spice beef salad; or an equally spicy Green Papaya Salad.

The two soup courses at the new location remain unchanged. Tom Yom Goong – a flavorsome spicy-sour feast of prawns and straw mushrooms floating in a broth of lemongrass, fish sauce and galangal or Tom Kha Kai – a Thai Chicken galangal soup bathed in savory coconut milk.

Curry lovers can choose from a Green Chicken Curry, a Peranakan Penang Curry, Yellow Curry or a Thai Massaman Chicken Curry.

Many dishes at DD's Warung allow the substitution of beef, pork or chicken, while the degree of “hotness” preferred can be specified when ordering.

It’s hard to mention “mains” in a culinary tradition that goes best when served “family style” shared with all gathered at the table -  but, still, you can’t go wrong ordering Pad Ga Pow Moo Kai Dow. DD Warung offers variations on the traditional ground pork versionof this popular dish with alternatives available in beef, seafood or chicken. Equally delicious and something of a signature dish of the chef is Kai Med Ma Maung – a dish of chicken and cashews cooked with onions, sweet soy sauce, chili, and honey.

With beer costing only Rp. 25,000 a bottle, main courses running between Rp. 40,0000 and Rp. 65,000, and its pleasant new garden setting on Jalan Danau Poso – DD’s Warung is destined for continued success attracting a steady flow of customers and several "fully-booked nights" since its reopening on November 1, 2017.

Reservations are probably a very good idea!
